The short version. TubePull is an independent multi-platform downloader — YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, Vimeo, SoundCloud, Dailymotion, Bandcamp, Twitter/X, Mixcloud, and Twitch — built and operated by Mike Walker, an indie engineer in Orlando, Florida. It started as a personal tool a few friends wanted to borrow, and grew into a passion project rooted in FIRST Robotics and the maker community. No VC, no ad networks, no resold infrastructure — just a tool that does one thing well.

Who builds TubePull

TubePull is built and run by Mike Walker, founder of Moondust Studios LLC. Mike has spent more than a decade building SaaS products as a full-stack engineer, with a focus on creator-economy tools, payments, and infrastructure. TubePull is operated solo from Orlando, FL.

Outside of Moondust Studios, Mike spends most of his free time volunteering with FIRST Robotics and Maker Faire Orlando — the two communities that TubePull was actually built for.

The product runs on the same stack Mike uses for every Moondust Studios project: PHP, MariaDB on DigitalOcean managed databases, Cloudflare for DNS/SSL/edge caching, Stripe for billing, and yt-dlp on a private worker fleet for the actual downloads. The application is built and operated solo by Mike.

Why TubePull exists

TubePull did not start as a business. It started as a personal script Mike put together to pull down video clips for his own projects, and a handful of friends asked to use it too. Word spread, the little tool kept getting more useful, and it slowly grew into the product it is today — but the reason Mike still maintains it so actively traces back to a volunteer commitment that has nothing to do with SaaS metrics.

Mike was a member of FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team 21, ComBBAT, in high school, and has stayed involved ever since — now helping run competitions throughout Florida and at the FIRST Championship each year in Houston. That ongoing involvement led him to start Robot in 3 Days, a series highlighting teams that design and build a competition robot in just three days, so that teams still deciding on a build strategy have real examples of rapid design methods to learn from. Producing that series means quickly turning raw event footage — always with the teams' and event organizers' permission — into short, useful videos the FRC community can actually learn from, and TubePull grew directly out of needing a fast, reliable way to pull that footage down and get to editing.

Mike is also a producer for Maker Faire Orlando, where he leads production for the panel room. The same need shows up there: talks and demos need to be pulled and repurposed quickly, with permission, so makers who could not attend in person can still learn from what was shared.

That is the real story behind TubePull: a personal tool built to serve a volunteer passion for robotics education and the maker community, refined over time until it was solid enough that other people started asking to use it too.
