Why some YouTube downloads have no sound
YouTube commonly delivers higher-quality video and audio separately. A simplistic downloader can save only the video stream, producing a sharp file with no sound. Another can save both files but leave the user to combine them manually.
A complete MP4 needs the selected video stream and a compatible audio stream inside the final container. Combining already-compressed tracks without re-encoding is called muxing. When possible, muxing preserves the existing video and audio quality because it changes the container arrangement rather than recompressing every frame.
This detail is easy to miss because the YouTube player hides the delivery process. The player requests the pieces it needs and presents them as one experience. A downloaded file has to package those pieces into something the destination device understands.
